Dr Kathleen Ooi is a rehabilitation physician with extensive practice in chronic neurological conditions and amputees. Kathleen obtained her Fellowship in the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine in January 1994. Her areas of interest include spasticity management, chronic neurological disabilities such as spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy and multiple sclerosis. She has a particular interest in intrathecal pumps mainly for baclofen although she has a smaller practice for intrathecal administration of opioids for pain management. She also utilises spinal cord stimulation as part of her pain management strategies.

Kathleen had a public appointment at Caulfield General Medical Centre in the Amputee Unit and at St Vincent’s Hospital in the Adult Cerebral Palsy Clinic and in the Polio Services Victoria Clinic. She has admitting rights at Epworth, Cabrini and Bellbird Hospitals.

Kathleen also has an interest in wound management and worked for 10 years in pressure sore management at Bethlehem Hospital. She also worked for many years with bladder and bowel management in people who have neurological problems.

Kathleen is a Fellow of the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine and also provides training lectures for the rehabilitation registrars and acts as an examiner at the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine. She attends the Pain Users Group Meeting of other like-minded physicians who implant spinal cord stimulators. She is also registered to administer botulinum toxin injections for spasticity management.
